Machinery supply is a group of businesses which include suppliers, buyers and dealers. There are many industrial customers around the world who purchase machinery and other equipment from these firms.

A lot of other service industries also purchase machinery and other supplies from these firms. Other clients would include governments, educational institutions, hotels, call centers, insurance companies, banking and lending institutions, manufacturing plants, oil refineries, pharmaceutical manufacturing plants, and research and development labs.

Machinery supply offers both conventional shop-floor and web-based services. They may have their own premises or use separate premises for the same purposes. Whichever type of establishment they use, they offer services such as:

Equipment buying. For the purpose of buying and assembling products, they use either manufacturers’ supplies or small shops which sell machine parts.

Procurement services. These firms prepare equipment requisitions, oversee transactions and ensure that they are conducted in compliance with state and federal rules and regulations. They also assist manufacturers in acquiring equipment.

Engineering design. work closely with engineers to prepare and organize mechanical drawings and designing specifications.

Services. These firms usually specialize in one or two services; a general engineering design may be performed by a general manager or engineer and general procurement by a manager. However, most of them provide specific services to their clientele.

Repair and servicing. For most of the companies, this is a one-time contract involving just the order of the parts. They may perform a wide range of maintenance and repair tasks including engine replacement, equipment installation, instrumentation servicing, component replacement, faulty components replacement, and assembly for overhaul.

Part sourcing. In this service, the customer has full access to all kinds of parts and accessories required to make the product operational. The supplier makes best use of spare and surplus parts from the product to manufacture and assemble the product.

Manufacturing process and quality control. During this process, the customer can take his/her time to check the process of manufacturing, read the documentation, find out about the design of the product, and decide whether it is indeed the right product for the market or not.

Mechanism finishing. Some suppliers will ensure that the finished product functions well; in other cases, the customer will make the final decision on whether the product meets the standards required for use.

Since machinery supply is a large part of any manufacturing industry, it requires a large capital investment. However, it is quite possible to reduce costs by using their equipment and working with their suppliers. This can be done to save time and effort for the businessman.
